Past Assignments

Online Networking

I am very conscious that most of our communication is one-way from me and that we all have busy lives and cannot always make the 4th Thursday in each month.  This is why I have been pushing the blog and (latterly) the use of Google photos to encourage us to drop in and out of the photography club throughout the month; asking questions, passing comments and sharing images as you take them; to make it a 2 way dialogue.

Wadswick Green Photography Club Blog

The club blog site is intended for 2 way communication and to act as a point of reference for hints and tips, to link to assignment images, and to replace emails (which often get buried and lost in our intrays).  To find the club blog site simply Google "Wadswick Green Photography Club", type in the following address, or click on this link:
The content of all my emails are on this site plus additional things you may not see in your email programme.
You can add comments and ask questions on any of the content on the site.
The site has 3 main sections:
  • Home - which contains all the posts I have added (and circulated by email)
  • Suggested Reading List - links to items about photography on the internet that I have found interesting/useful.  (I will be adding to this soon).
  • Project 22 Image Gallery - a slideshow of my 2022 Project outputs.  there are currently 26 composite (2x2) images so I am close to my target of one per week.
To reduce the emails I have to send I would be grateful if you could subscribe to this blog so you are automatically emailed a copy of any new posts I put on line. There is a link to subscribe on the blog home page and I have reproduced it here:
Clicking on this link will open a form into which you type your email address.  Then press OK.  You will almost immediately receive an email from Feedburner asking you to confirm your email address by clicking on a link.

Google Photos

Following the change in privacy rules on Flickr, Google Photos is now our preferred means of sharing photos.  The aim is for you to upload your images to albums on your own Google Photos site and then share a link to those images with everyone else.

A previous post described how to create a Google account and how to upload images.

August Assignment - People

For the August assignment I have thought it time to move away from close up work and pick a subject that we probably all take lots of and yet, on questioning, say is not our favourite.  The subject is people.
I always say I do not like photographing people but looking back through my images a large proportion of them are of people, so much so that I did not have to take any photos specifically for this post.
Quite simply, the task is to take a single image of a person or people.  A good people image focuses on your subject and tells a story.  It can be posed or it can be candid.  Or it can even be of yourself, a self portrait.   It can of family, friends or strangers.  It needs to be visibly interesting.
Looking back through my recent portfolio I found a style developing in candid portraits of Wadswick Green villagers and staff.

Not so candid, but neither was it posed.
People at work or play

Or a selfie (plus experiment in Black and White processing).
