Apologies and Revised Plan for Outing

I apologise to everyone for not organising the trip to Lacock last Thursday as scheduled.  I have just started a small work contract  (so much for having retired!) which took away any time I had to prepare for it or to do it.

As an alternative, I have arranged full access to St Patrick's Catholic Church this coming Thursday, 24 March 1000 to 1200 as an alternative trip out.  I know the building very well so so do not need any time to prepare having photographed it many times before.  The building was built by Lord Methuen as a charity school in the 1850s closing in the 1940s for a brief spell of industrial use and dereliction before becoming a church in the 50s.  There are many aspects of the history of the building of interest to photographers.  Please let me know if you want to attend and I will arrange transport.

In the meantime, the daffodils around Wadswick Green are looking splendid so can I suggest an extra little project to take some daffodil images.  I attach my starter for 10.

Daffodils in the Wild!

I look forward to seeing your interpretations; I an conscious I have not seen many of your photographs and suspect this is a combination of not taking many photographs and lack of familiarity with putting the photographs on line.  Remember we can only comment on and critique our images (important parts of developing as a photographer) if we share them.

Flickr

Talking about sharing images, those of you who are registered on Flickr will have received a long email pointing to an even longer web page talking about changes to their terms of service.  Cynically, the changes are all geared at encouraging/forcing users to switch to the paid for "pro" level subscription (~£6.00 per month).  The change that most affects us is a new limit on the number of private images we can load, 50 before having to upgrade.  If you are happy that the whole world can see your images then there is no need to change.  If, like me, most of your images on Flickr are of people then it is likely to become an issue.  I am researching alternative ways of sharing our images, conscious that it has to be easy.  I am still waiting for most of you to subscribe to my blog so you will receive email copies of everything I post.

And Finally

I am continuing to experiment with the camera on my new iPhone 13 Pro and have been trying out the low light capabilities which are reported to be a significant improvement on this version.  Early results are very  promising;
  • the image stabilisation capability appears to be very good enabling me to take hand held long exposures.
  • The images display a high dynamic range.
Full moon over Wadswick Green.  Handheld long exposure.

Combined flash (Foreground) and long exposure, demonstrating the high dynamic range that is possible from a single handheld image.
